Module 5: Diet/Ecology
SLOs:
– Students will describe the difference between subsistence methods (hunting/gathering) – specifically the ones relevant to H. rudolfensis (grassland environment, mainly herbivorous and able to cope with tough fruits and plants) and H. heidelbergensis (cooler climates, hunted large animals)
– Students will understand the benefits and drawbacks of cooperative hunting as seen with H. heidelbergensis
– Students will understand how selective pressures based on available food sources impact anatomy (tooth size, muscle attachments, etc.)
